Tour Guide: Mr Rob Milne

Time: 07:30 for 08:00 

Meet at: Meet at a designated site near Hekpoort (about 30km northwest of Krugersdorp) – directions will be given to participants closer to the time. Maximum 25 participants.

Duration: About 3 – 4 hours. 

Bring: Bring a hat, sunblock, and drinking water. Wear sturdy walking shoes as we will hike about 3 km. We plan to have an informal picnic after the tour so bring a packed lunch, drinks and some folding chairs to sit on. 

Charge: R185 for members. R235 for non-members.

Renowned local historian Rob Milne will lead us on a storytelling ramble up “Timeball Hill” for a 360º view of local history, including the geology of the surrounding countryside, going back over two billion years. He will take us through the development of early humankind, Homo habilis – the first stone tool maker – only two million years ago. We will hear how tragedy unfolded amongst the “Ringing Rocks,” and see ancient carved rock statues, Bushman rock engravings and Iron Age villages. We will learn of the Difaqane wars from about 1810, and the Battle of Nooitgedacht on 13 December 1900.

Come and hear Rob’s tales of explorers, fortune hunters, spies and sorcerers, heroes and hunters, prophets and philanderers. A hike of about 3 km lasting more than 2 hours is involved, so a level of fitness is required.

1. Arrive on time and immediately report to the committee member who has the attendance register. 

2. Sign the attendance register and indemnity immediately. 

3. Only people who have booked and pre-paid may come on outings, we do not accept bookings or cash on the day.
