You are welcome to join us for an Archaeological Society outing at the Fountainhill Estate, Wartburg, at 10.30 am on Sunday 16 February 2025. The Fountainhill Estate is on the R614 west of Wartburg, that is, between the R33 (Pietermarizburg–Greytown road) and Wartburg.

 

Our host, Dr Gregor Bader of the University of Tübingen, Germany, invites you all to a guided tour of Holley Shelter near Wartburg on Sunday 16 February at 10.30 am. Gregor and his colleague Dr Manu Will have been excavating there periodically during the past few years and are now finishing their final season at the site. We visited them in 2022 early in the project, so this visit will be a last opportunity to learn on site about its success.

 

Gregor invites members to join him a lunch-time braai after the site visit. Please bring your own supplies – Gregor will provide a relaxing space, the fire and archaeological entertainment.
